About the event
IRONMAN was founded in Hawaii in 1978 and has now grown to be the World’s biggest mass-participation triathlon. Over 10,000 athletes in the UK will be tackling this ultimate IRONMAN challenge.
The 2017 UK Tour consisted of six events, Exmoor, Staffordshire, Bolton, Dublin, Weymouth & Wales. The events ranged from the 70.3 series to the full IRONMAN event. Often the events were back to back and the IRONMAN and Showcase teams would tour from event to event across the UK and Ireland.
Similar to previous years supply, our brief from the Organisers of IRONMAN was to supply their Tour of events with multiple sound systems, covering the various zones they have on site including:
Race briefing venue
We are also contracted to supply LED screens to display live camera relay, sponsorship content and IRONMAN promotional video content.
Solution & Delivery
Each event saw a variety of different starting, transition and finish areas. Using our knowledge of IRONMAN events we produced site plans showing the audio coverage, dispersion and audio levels being achieved.
Our plans were used onsite by a variety of IRONMAN subcontractors to ensure barriers, power, participants and spectators were positioned in areas in safe audio sound pressure level areas.
We were able to add value to the event by ensuring where possible start line and transition areas were linked with audio cabling to ensure important information from the start areas were fed back to transition, this often involved live and redundancy systems with over 1km of cabling.
Our teams are split up in order to concentrate on each area of the event with a production manager overseeing all technical and logistical aspects of the event, with tight timelines and road closures our production team attend various meetings with IRONMAN and produce detailed plans and production schedules.
To aid in audience interaction we supplied mobile LED screens ranging from 18SQM to 60SQM, which displayed digital signage, live camera feeds and the all important sponsor content.
We supplied audio visual equipment ranging from, 65” plasma screens to large scale productions for 10,000 athletes for the race briefings.
As the iconic symbol of IRONMAN is the M DOT logo, we designed and produced a projection screen which incorporated the MDOT logo, this piece of scenery was designed by our CAD & 3D Visual team and built in house by our stage and set department. The MDOT acted as the backdrop to the race brief and awards shows at both the IRONMAN Wales and Bolton events.
